National History
On December 10, 1998, at St. Johns University in New York ten astounding women came together to form Sigma Sigma Rho, making it the first South Asian Interest Sorority.
On this date, our founding mothers established the humble beginnings of an organization that many sisters have since come to embrace and love. These women instilled the organization a sense of strength and purity.
They are the voice with a successful entrepreneurial endeavor that sisters will never cease to hear. They echo in Sigma Sigma Rho’s past and help to shape the organization’s future.
The vision of the founders remains in effect, as sisters build on their dreams and principles to create everlasting sisterhood and perpetual organization that is strong enough to test time.

Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention
Sigma for Society Week
We will be holding our annual "Sigma for Society" week dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence October 2018 by each chapter or colony at their respective universities. The funds we raise contribute to a non-profit organization dedicated to assist victims of domestic violence. In addition to raising funds, awareness is spread on all our campus communities through service projects, workshops, and informational events.

NO MORE WEEK
During this week in October, the national domestic awareness month, we will be posting about domestic violence on all of our social media websites in order to spread awareness about the importance of the issue. No More is an organization that arose from the desire to unite the diverse array of groups working to end domestic violence and sexual assault.

#SUPPORTFEMALE
JANITORS
All women deserve to feel safe in their workplace. Female janitors are at high risk when working the night shift alone and many survivors have come forward. Due to this, rallies in California have begun to advocate for a bill that gives greater protections against sexual assault to female janitors. Sigma Sigma Rho Umich Colony would like to raise awareness and fight for these women that do not feel safe working. Keep an eye out for our upcoming social media campaign in December #nomoreexcuses #SigSigSupportsFemaleJanitors
